*You* would add the Mercury procedure and *I* would modify the Java
sources. Two persons, two files, that seems fine to me. *I* would read
*your* diff's and translate them to Java. *You* could successfully
compile *your* changes even to Java without interference with *me* who
has to modify the Java implementation layer.
