Announcement of the
6th Prolog Programming Competition
at the occasion of the
last International Conference on Logic Programming before Y2K
in Las Cruces, New Mexico
http://www.CS.NMSU.Edu/~complog/conferences/iclp99
NEW FORMULA !
No longer just in Prolog !
Previous Prolog Programming Competitions took place in Ithaca'94,
Portland'95, Bonn'96, Leuven'97 and Manchester'98. These were great
events, where people enjoyed themselves (and the organisers) and there
were great winning teams. We aim for a similar event, but ...
NEW FORMULA !
No longer just in Prolog !
On popular demand, the competition will this year NOT be restricted to
Prolog: problems can be solved in any logic programming language (*)
Generally speaking, up to 15 teams of up to 3 people will try solve as
many problems as possible during 2 hours. Each team will have one
keyboard, mouse and screen, connected to some computing power under
Linux or Solaris. The language in which you solve the problems, is
almost entirely up to the teams: SICStus Prolog will be provided for
all, but you are free to bring your own logic programming system (**)
Do you need to register beforehand ?
No, but it would be nice if you let us know in advance
you intend to participate.
And it is on a first-come-first-served basis !
Do you need to participate with a complete team ?
No, you can express you intention to participate individually.
On the spot, we'll try to make teams.
Of course you can register as a team.
Is there a prize for the winning team ?
Sure ! And your name will be mentioned at the conference banquet.
But apart from the material prize, there is eternal fame,
satisfaction, admiration by your colleagues and if you are
lucky like the Melbourne team, even a half page local news
paper article !
Now the fine print ...
(*) for the purpose of the competition, a small jury will decide on a
per case basis what is a logic programming system; such decision might
be based on available disk space, the characteristics of the language
or our whims, but is unrevocable, undisputable and cannot be used
against us; rejected languages or systems will be mentioned at an
appropriate moment/place
(**) you will have the opportunity to install your favoured logic
programming system remotely, starting some 2 weeks before the
conference starts; also on the spot installation is possible, but
discouraged; details will at an appropriate time be given to those
interested: show your interest by mailing us
Detailed participation rules will be available at the conference.
IMPORTANT
Date: Tuesday, November 30, 5-7 pm
Place: In the undergraduate lab of the computer science department of
NMU, within walking distance from the conference site.
