Can Mercury be used to build an API?

Thank-you.  You've answered my questions very thoroughly.

It's still not clear whether Mercury fits my requirements or not.  I
guess it all hinges on how "heavy" the Mercury environment is---and
I'll look at what you've written (and at the interfaces) and get back
to you (I'm in the midst of some product delivery, so it could be a
little while ... I wrote to you because a friend had praised Mercury
to the skies and it seemed to be a possible solution to my problems).
