[m-dev.] Marking library preds as obsolete

In many places in the library, we have single-mode preds whose mode is
`(in, ..., in, out) is det', accompanied by the corresponding func.

Would there be great objection to marking these preds as obsolete?
They're an anachronism.  I know this would entail some extensive
cosmetic changes in the compiler, but that's not necessarily a bad
thing.
