I don't think it's a good idea to upgrade glibc, because that might
have unknown adverse affects.

In general, people should have /home/$HOST/mercury-latest/$FULLARCH
in their path ahead of /home/mercury/mercury-latest/$FULLARCH.
Then everything will work fine, I think.
