The following keys are very useful for renumbering variables in vim.

                                                        *CTRL-A*
CTRL-A                  Add [count] to the number at or after the cursor.
                        {not in Vi}

                                                        *CTRL-X*
CTRL-X                  Subtract [count] from the number at or after the
                        cursor.  {not in Vi}
