Tyson has already expressed everything that I wanted to say on this topic
far more eloquently than I could have.

I would just like to add one thing: a quote from Richard Stallman,
who was in Melbourne recently.  I had the opportunity to discuss
this topic with him.  He made a number of sage comments, the most
quote-worthy of which was the following.
