Anyone who has used callback functions in C or Pascal should have no
problem understanding (the basics of) higher order programming.  If
you're familiar with function objects in C++ (and you can't use much
of the STL if you're not), it's even easier.

And I think it's too important to leave out, even if it would be
difficult.
