FYI, I'm not going to commit this... evidently making the thesis available
on the web is considered "publication", and causes problems if I want to
publish parts of the thesis elsewhere.

If I find out otherwise, I'll put it on the www page. Until then, if anyone
wants a copy, let me know by email. For those with accounts at Melbourne,
I've put copy in ~dgj/dgj-thesis.ps.gz
