The input in question is things like the @samp{...} markup in the
texinfo source for the documentation. Such things are output inside
single quotes. Depending on the age of the version of texinfo the
single quoting might be `', '' or the directional quote characters.

(The version of info on my latop -- the Windows machine -- is much newer
than the one installed on the Linux machine I usually use. I suspect
newer versions of info just output the diretional single quotes by
default, since that looks better. I couldn't find anyway of having it
not do this except via the locale.)
