Maybe I'll set that up when I've got something real to contribute to the
Mercury project. Making a double clone of the git repository and figuring
out how to create a pull request seems like overkill to me, for simply
replacing a string in one file.

All that's needed is to replace the string "string-to-int" with "string-to-
number" in scripts/gud.el. I've checked that.
