Thanks for all the info (can't imagine how I didn't manage to find the 
right message in the archive, well there you go).

I pulled down 0.11.1-beta-2003-04-06, it built seemingly OK (albeit 
with many warnings, tut tut) and in turn builds hello world OK, so I 
guess  I'm in business.
