[mercury-users] Why isn't deforestation working here?

Thanks for the patch, Fergus.  Unfortunately, when I applied it to io.m
in a just-loaded rotd-10-17, just after I'd done `configure; make' I got
an inscrutable error report concerning io.date3.  This is a bit odd, since
I assumed that stuff was there to detect when files (e.g. the io.c and
io.opt
files) were out of date.  Any advice?
