I've got such a package and have been using it for more than
a year or so in a web service.

The main problem with the current package is that it still
requires replacing the io.m library file (with a rebuild of
the library necessary). The replacement makes some types
equivalent so some compile time checks are broken. Having
said that I haven't been caught out by that problem since
I've had the package around.
