	Logic programming in general, and Mercury in particular, are not going to
	become mainstream languages until it is shown that they can be used to
	create an operating system.
	
Just how many operating systems are written in COBOL?  Or BASIC?  Or Perl?
How many *available* operating systems are written in Java?

	Today, the importance of multimedia means that any new operating system
	must be hard real time.
	
I'm typing on a Mac.  It does multimedia, but MacOS is _not_ a hard real-time
operating system.  (RTEMS, yes.  QNX, yes.  MacOS and Windows, no.  Some
UNIX systems, with a good deal of care to switch a lot of things off, and
to do things in somewhat unusual ways, *maybe*.)
