... along the lines agreed over the weekend. For review by Julien.

The diff is with -b. It contains two ZZZs which I intend to act upon
after I commit this diff. It has been bootchecked in both LLDS and MLDS
grades that support tail recursion, as well as debug and deep prof grades.
