[m-rev.] for review: start on installing libraries via mmake

For review by anyone.

I would like any MacOS users to have a look at a ZZZ
in scripts/Mmake.vars.in. It is on code that hardcodes
.so as the extension for shared libraries, which I believe
is incorrect on MacOS. Has this ever been a problem,
and if so, do you think that replacing ".so" in this case
with "(EXT_FOR_SHARED_LIB)" would fix it?
