I have found that some users, particularly those for whom English is not
at first language, are confused by what "clobbered" means; less so with
"dead".

Agreed; it's somewhat unfortunate that there are two names for the same
thing in the first place.  (As such, I have no objection to Peter's change
to the reference manual.)
