[m-rev.] diff: avoid using term.m's to-be-obsoleted predicates

Some calls to the to-be-obsoleted predicates still remain,
since fixing them would cause conflicts in the workspace
in which I am fixing the item list (whose diff, BTW, is
currently about 11,000 lines).
