I tried it yesterday, but configure never finished.  I ran the
following command before going home last night:

./configure --prefix=c:/mercury-11.01-beta
--enable-libgrades=asm_fast.gc,hlc.gc,java && make install

When I got in this morning configure was (ironically) still stuck on
"checking for kill".  Seems likely to be a MingGW issue and nothing on
our side.
