Should this affect the copyright of the project?  If you want to assign
copyright to Melbourne Uni it should probably be done formally.

Having more than one copyright holder is usually not a problem in practice.
The only consideration is that a change in the license of the project, for
example GPL2 to GPL3 needs the consent of all copyright holders.
