Actually, it doesn't. I checked out a version of the system from July 19,
before this change was committed, and it already has the same problem.
I am now checking the system version from July 14, before my previous
change.

Both those diffs passed all tests that were run. However, the ones in
tests/mmc_make weren't run because I don't use --use-subdirs. Is it
possible to fix this?
