2 and especially 3 are mostlikely your problem.  Try the following to  
see if they help.
1. Configure MS Outlook to send plain text only e-mails, no HTML or  
other markup.
2. Use a different e-mail client.
3. Save the patch into a plain text file using notepad or similar and  
attach that file to the e-mail.
