That's a considerable improvement over the status quo.  I've had a quick
look over the revised diff and that seems fine.  I suggest installing
the hlc.agc grade and running the test suite** (if you haven't already
done so).  After that feel free to commit this one.

** the test suite should be set up to disable those tests that don't
yet work in the agc grades.
