[m-rev.] Changes to extras/lex checked in.

I've checked in the updated version of extras/lex to the main
branch and backed out the change I incorrectly made to
the version-0_10_y branch.  Many thanks to Fergus for
explaining the CVS arcana involved.

NOTE: if you have code that made use of lex, it will need some
small modification to work with the new version (the regexps
have been simplified and the interface for constructing lexers
has also changed.)
