You haven't described his problem fully (and I can't see his bug report),
but perhaps it's this bug:
http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=22362
(I reported it against gcc 4, but it appears that it applies against
older versions of gcc as well). It's now fixed upstream in gcc 4.0.2 and
4.1.0.
