Yes this is a change that I just placed in the compiler, you can avoid this
problem by commenting it out.

However this will lead to the library not compiling in the IL grade as
functions with different implementations for different modes need to
promise_pure declarations.  Thus we have a catch 22 situation.

I will change the definition back to one defined in C#.
