I know; such an analogy has been standard in Prolog debuggers in ages.

What I was objecting to is that the type "dir" is misusing the analogy,
since it is in fact equivalent not to a directory but to a path name component.
A directory is specified by a full pathname; type "dir" doesn't contain a full
pathname.
