I think vim will read them OK without any changes,
albeit displaying the multi-line error messages one line at a time.

Personally I use program called `error', which takes error messages
and embeds them in as special comments in the source file.
It's available at <http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/~fjh/software/error.tar.gz>.
