bootcheck failed

Hi,

The compiler failed its bootstrap tests on murlibobo last night;
the stage 2 compiler gets a seg fault.  It worked fine the night
before.  I think the most likely cause of the problem is the
changes that Zoltan recently committed.  Zoltan, could you please
investigate this one?
