end of code freeze

Hi,

Now that version 0.7 has been released, the code freeze is over -- we can go
back to the normal process of reviewing and committing changes.

I have made a branch tag `version-0_7_x' for bug fixes to 0.7.
Any bug fixes that are reasonably simple, that are unlikely to introduce
new bugs, and that can be easily applied to the release-0_7_x branch
should be committed on that branch as well as on the main development
line.
